Snowman
(1873 - 1947) was a famous British-Jewish artist in his time, who
emigrated to Palestine
to continue his work; said to be one of Queen Mary's favorite artists; his
older brother Jacob Snowman was a doctor and prominent mohel, who circumcised Charles, Prince of Wales
. Although the picture's subtitle indicates that the depicted lamentation is a daily ritual, the image - particularly of men without the customary 'Tefilin' on their forehead and hands - is probably of the Tisha be'Av day of fasting and lamentation.
